BIPOC Mental Health Month 2022

July 14, 2022
Since 2008, July has formally been recognized as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. This month is a time to raise awareness for the unique challenges that Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) experience in relation to mental health and the history behind those challenges.
The 2022 theme of BIPOC Mental Health Month designated by Mental Health America is Beyond the Numbers.
Beyond the Numbers aims to educate the public about the historical context of mental health challenges experienced by BIPOC, systems of support that are available, and ways to move forward into the future of equitable mental health. In doing so, Beyond the Numbers encourages us to look beyond the statistics and listen to the stories of real people who have persisted through generations of oppression, persecution, and abuse, to find resilience, strength, and healing.
Although there are many reasons to celebrate the strength and resilience of BIPOC communities, BIPOC Mental Health Month is also a time to recognize the major issues that contribute to BIPOC communities being statistically more likely to develop mental health conditions and less likely to be able to access the treatment they need.
Children’s Advantage is honored to spread the message of Beyond the Numbers and support BIPOC mental health initiatives during and beyond the month of July.
