Celebrating Social Work Month

March 9, 2022

Children’s Advantage is celebrating this year’s Social Work Month in March with the theme “The Time is Right for Social Work.” The goal is to highlight the immeasurable impact that social workers all over the world have made on their communities in the past, present, and future.

The annual Social Work Month campaign is a time to inform the public about the broad spectrum of services that social workers provide in areas such as politics, schools, hospitals, mental health centers, social service agencies, community centers, etc. It is also a time to celebrate the social workers whose passion and tenacity are working to bring positive change to every city, street, and home.

Every person who commits their life to social work also commits to the six core values that define the profession and, therefore, shape the individual. These values are service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. Social workers use these six values to heal, empower, and equip their clients while promoting legislation that will protect and provide for future generations.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) social work is one of the fastest growing professions in the United States with more than 800,000 social workers expected to be in the workforce by 2030. This is very exciting news for the future of social work, as past social work pioneers have been the driving forces behind such issues as voting rights, equal rights, Social Security, and unemployment insurance.

During the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, social workers have worked tirelessly to connect clients to food, housing, and healthcare assistance and to provide mental health support to individuals experiencing grief and loss. Without their efforts, many would be left feeling hopeless, desperate and alone. Beyond the pandemic, social workers will continue to play a key role in helping people as the nation grapples with issues such as racism, economic uncertainty, addiction, deep political and cultural differences, and natural disasters fueled by global warming.

The time is right for social work.

“I’m so proud of the social workers on the Children’s Advantage team. Their work fosters change that improves life for those they serve, strengthens our community through advocacy, and instills hope for the future. Thank you Monica, Madison, Celisa, Mary M., Mary S., Deb, Karli, Kristen, and Kim for your dedication to our mission and the children and families we serve!”  – Kathy Regal, CEO
