Cocoon Makers Receive Large Portage County Donation
Friends of Axess Family Services, the Cocoon Makers, were recently recognized by 100+ Women Who Care Portage County for their incredible community support and volunteerism!
Founded 14 years ago, the Cocoon Makers craft bedrolls and blankets from donated fabrics for local organizations, with a focus on the homeless population and children entering foster care. They meet every Wednesday from 9:30 AM to noon, and, earlier this year, they started operating at 705 Oakwood St. in Ravenna, where many AFS programs also reside.
100+ Women Who Care Portage County is a collective of women who choose one local effort to financially support each quarter of the year. Last week, they donated over 50 checks to the Cocoon Makers to purchase new equipment.
The Cocoon Makers welcome anyone to volunteer with them or drop off a donation. They also occasionally offer sewing classes. Currently, they are looking for donations of clean sheets, mattress pads, old men’s neckties, heavy fabrics, cotton fabric, and fleece.
