Managing 2020 Holiday Stress

November 11, 2020

Holiday stress is nothing new but this year we are experiencing some unique challenges during the holiday season.

Here are some tips to help you and your family enjoy the best of the holiday season:

Self-care and routine

It is important for families to keep routines and for parents to set a calm example. If you let holiday stress get to you, your children will certainly feel it. Taking care of yourself can help children learn how to handle stress and practice well-being. Try to keep sleep routines and schedules consistent amongst the hustle of the holiday season.

Don’t forget to eat healthily!

The holidays may introduce extra-sugary treats. Try to keep healthy snacks and regular meals for you and your kids. Lack of proper meal times and healthy food can contribute to holiday stress.

Focus and stay present

The holidays add the hustle and bustle of shopping, cooking, and family get-togethers. This year could be completely different from your past celebrations but it is still important to pay attention to the present moment. Stop and notice how you are feeling and how your children are doing. If the holidays look different, take this as an opportunity to make new memories and traditions.

Finally, remember what the holidays are really about. Being kind, enjoying one another, and sharing the hope of the season. If you are staying home due to COVID-19 that doesn’t mean that you can’t see your loved ones. You can schedule a video call, honor traditions, and connect virtually all season.
