Valley Health Services (formerly Valley Counseling Services) and Children’s Advantage have been providing behavioral healthcare to the community for over 65 years, serving nearly 10,000 patients each year. Our Child & Adolescent offices specialize in counseling, case management, substance use treatment, medication management and much more for youth in Trumbull, Mahoning, and Portage counties.

Diagnostic Assessment

Psychiatric Services

Our compassionate providers work with youth to address challenges such as anxiety, depression, and behavioral concerns. Our Psychiatry team carefully evaluates whether medication may be helpful and provides ongoing monitoring and medication management to support each child’s progress and overall well-being.

Nursing Services

Bridging physical and emotional care, our nurses work closely with schools and our behavioral health teams to ensure your child’s mental health treatment is supported with safe, coordinated medical care.

Individual Counseling

Our counseling program provides a safe and supportive space for children and teens to express their feelings and work through challenges. Therapists use age-appropriate, evidence-based approaches like play therapy and cognitive-behavioral strategies to build coping skills and resilience. Sessions can address concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, behavioral issues, and family or peer conflicts. The goal is to help each child develop confidence, make positive choices, and thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.

Group Counseling

Our group counseling sessions provide a supportive environment where individuals can learn and grow alongside others facing similar challenges. Programs focus on areas such as parenting, life skills, anger management, and healthy relationships, using practical strategies and guided discussion. Each group is designed to build confidence, improve coping skills, and encourage positive changes that carry into daily life.

In-School Services

Valley Health Services staff consults with schools, community organizations and designated preschool/childcare facilities to provide prevention and early identification of youth experiencing potential mental health issues. Services include Diagnostic assessments, day treatment, case management, and individual/group counseling.

ECMH Consultation

Empowering caregivers and educators with expert guidance to support young children's emotional and behavioral development from the very start.

Prevention Programming

We offer prevention programs for children and adolescents, focusing on resilience, coping skills, and healthy decision-making to support long-term well-being.

Parenting Program

Court Ordered Referrals

Providing timely, professional behavioral health services that meet court requirements while promoting positive change and personal growth.

Art Therapy

We have highly-trained art therapists that, through creative activities, can help children learn to express themselves, build self-esteem, and develop healthy ways to manage their emotions.

Substance Abuse Treatment

Our team specializes in working with youth and young adults struggling with substance use and mental health challenges. We provide assessment and individual services as well as support for families. Utilizing The Seven Challenges® program, we help substance dependent youth to make a commitment to change.

Telemedicine & Telehealth

Accessing care should be convenient and barrier-free. With telemedicine and telehealth services, families can connect with our behavioral health professionals from the comfort of home. These virtual visits make it easier to receive counseling, psychiatry, and support services, ensuring that care is always within reach.
