Monica’s Spotlight

February 28, 2024
March is social work month! We have asked our social workers to answer a questionnaire to spotlight their passion and commitment. Here’s Monica’s Spotlight:
Q. What is your favorite part of your job?
I would have to say my favorite part of my job is being able to work with children and families and watch them make progress and supervising all my amazing staff and watching them grow as well.
Q: How long have you been a social worker and why did you choose this profession?
I have been a social worker for 7 years but have been working in the mental health field since 2015. I chose social work because it was always a natural response for me to help others. I wanted to help others in any way possible and be a person for someone who needed it the most, especially during their childhood.
Q: What would you tell someone interested in becoming a social worker?
Do it! It is a tough profession, but it comes with so many rewards. Being able to help others as my job is something special. I get to go to work and enjoy what I do every day, helping people grow into the people they want to be and making positive changes to impact their lives.
Q: How do you prioritize self-care and what does it look like for you?
Self-care is important to maintain in this field. I make an effort each week to do something for myself, whether that is going for a walk, spending time with friends, spending time with my dog snuggling, working out or playing soccer. I try to do these things regularly. I also really enjoy the beach, so at least once a year I take a vacation to the beach to reset.
Q: How do you describe Children’s Advantage to families who have never heard of it?
Children’s Advantage is a mental health agency that welcomes all children and families to work on their mental health challenges. Our goal is to serve the whole family and meet the needs of each child that comes through our doors with our wide range of mental health services.
