The Healing Power of Art Therapy

November 5, 2023

Art Therapy is defined as a mental health profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.

At CA, we are grateful to have two wonderful art therapists who graduated from Ursuline College with masters degrees in Art Therapy and Counseling.

At CA, we offer art therapy through individual sessions and art focused groups! Many groups target coping skills development, emotional processing, and developing social skills through the use of art therapy.

Art therapy offers children a non-verbal way to process their unique experiences and express their needs and emotions. In art therapy, clients do not need to necessarily have the verbal capacity to explain what they are experiencing, instead they can process and express it through art instead. Art therapy is so beneficial for not only kids, but teens, adults, and older adults!

Art therapy is accomplished with the presence of a credentialed art therapist. Clients and families are always encouraged to make art at home together to facilitate bonding, coping skills, and creative expression!
