What is a School Case Manager: A Guide for Parents

As we go back to school, you may wonder what support systems your child has access to in school? Many schools have case managers on staff to support students who need assistance in a variety of ways.
School Case Managers are available to facilitate student achievement, improve behavior, and help them develop socially. They can intervene when your child faces behavioral, physical, or mental health challenges and connect them to services to help them achieve greatness.
School Case Managers Can:
- Meet individually and in groups with students for skills building, psycho-education, and early identification of mental health concerns.
- Develop behavioral support plans for classroom and home.
- Link student and family to community resources.
- Attend school and other community meetings in support of the student.
- Facilitate service coordination within school/home/community settings.
Reasons you may consider school case management include truancy or separation anxiety that affects attendance, suspensions/detentions/frequent office referrals, trauma/grief, substance abuse concerns, bullying, lack of motivation, academic concerns, and a variety of barriers that may affect performance.
